Social Studies
Through the combined efforts of our members, the social studies department focuses on the Advancement of all students within our spectrum of academic potential, into informed citizens of understanding, accessing, and participating in the American system of government.
Upon graduation from Holy Cross High School all students will:
~Learn democratic citizenship and how to participate in the constitutional
system of the United States
~Learn democratic citizenship through the humanities by studying literature,
art, philosophy, and related fields
~Acquire historical understanding of political and diplomatic ideas,
forces, institutions throughout the United States and the world
~Acquire historical understanding of societal ideas and forces
throughout the United States and the world
~Acquire historical understanding of varying culture
~Acquire historical understanding of economic forces, ideas, and
institutions throughout the United States and the world
In addition to the above, all students will acquire geographical understanding by studying:
~The world in spatial terms
~Human systems in geography
~The environment and society
Further guided by the core values of Roman Catholic theology, and educated in the history of social, economic, and cultural conflicts, Holy Cross students will graduate fully aware of their rights, respectful of the rights of others, and aware of their responsibilities within the community, state, country and world.
