Hotpoint Washing Machine Repairs, Error Code E10 and F10

Posted on

If your hotpoint washing machine is not working and you feel it needs repairs and you are getting the E10 or F10 error code, this means there is NO cold fill and you should check and verify that the taps are on and that the hoses are not kinked.

The first thing to check is the taps, most machines will have the hot and cold fill supply plumbed via a hot and cold inlet valve placed under a sink or directly behind the machine samsung washer repair los angeles, it is usually a silver valve with the Blue and some times a red flexible hose connected to it, the blue should be cold and if there is a red that will be the hot supply.

In the on position, the plastic switch located on the side of the in let vale should be pointed in the same direction as the arrow on the valve and in the off position it should be pointed across the valve, if it looks off, especially if your valve is under a sink where pots, pans, boxes and other item can get pushed up against it and could turn it off by accident, simply turn it back on, but do not force it, as forcing it could break it, and that could lead to a flood situation.

If the valves looks OK, but the washing machine is still not working and you still get the E10 or F10 error message, you now need to check for a kinks in the pipes, this will probably mean pulling the washing machine out from its housing to continue the repair.

At this stage you need to take in to consideration the fact that the washing machine will be heavy and connected to both the mains electrics and mains water supply and also that putting the machine back properly can often be harder than taking it out.

If you are unsure, you would be best advised to call a engineer, if you are not willing to pull the washing machine out you could still also check any part of the inlet flexible hose pipes that you can easily see, like in the cupboards and also to the side of the washer, if you see any kinks, you could try to remove the kink and test the machine again.

Error codes are usually machine specific and the diagnosis given here is for the hotpoint range only, do not relate this diagnosis or error code meanings to any other make of washing machine

Refrigerator Repair: How to Identify Common Causes of Refrigerator Noise

Posted on

Is your refrigerator keeping you up at night with its various moans and groans? When you need immediate relief from your noisy refrigerator, there are a few steps you can take. Follow these helpful tips from your local appliance repair shop:

Locate the source of the noise – Is the noise coming from the inside of the freezer, or the outside back of the refrigerator? Determining what area the noise is coming from will help you narrow down the possible components that might be causing the sound.

Troubleshoot – There are only a handful of parts in a refrigerator that typically cause noise refrigerator repair los angeles. Once you have narrowed down the general location of the sound, you can begin troubleshooting various components to try to resolve the issue. While some issues can easily be fixed with minimal effort, others will require that you call in a professional who is trained in refrigeration repair.
Noise Inside the Freezer

Noise originating inside the freezer can typically be attributed to the evaporator fan, which runs whenever the unit is actively cooling. If you notice a chirping, squealing, or groaning sound that comes and goes (rather than being steady), it may be an issue with the fan motor. To find out for sure, open the freezer door and hold down the light/fan switch if there is one. If the sound gets louder with the door open, you can be pretty sure that the fan is the cause. Unfortunately, there is no way to repair the evaporator fan motor–you must replace the part in order to resolve the issue.

Noise from the Back of the Refrigerator

Most noises that you notice will come from the back of the refrigerator, where most of the moving parts are located. If you have a self-defrosting unit, the first place you will want to check is the condenser fan. The condenser fan is located on the back of the refrigerator, often behind a thin panel. The fan can occasionally accumulate a buildup of lint and other debris, causing a buzzing or clicking noise. You can try to resolve the problem by removing the thin cover to access the fan, and then cleaning the fan of any debris using a soft bristled brush (old toothbrushes are great for this!). Once the fan is clear of dust or other materials, replace the cover and plug the refrigerator back in. If you still have noise coming from the condenser fan after cleaning it, you may have to replace the part with the help of an appliance repair company.

If your refrigerator is making a rumbling, or purring noise from the back, it may indicate a problem with your compressor. The compressor is located in a football-sized case on the back of the refrigerator, near the bottom of the unit, and usually contains either black or copper tubes with a variety of colored wires. The compressor is typically a sealed unit, so it can not be replaced by a do-it-yourselfer. If you are able to isolate the problem to the compressor, you will need to contact a refrigerator repair technician to complete the job.

Noise from the Bottom of the Refrigerator

If you have noise emanating from the bottom of your refrigerator, it is likely coming from one of two places. The first, and easiest to resolve, is rattling from a loose drain pan. To fix this issue, simply tape the pan securely in place to stop the noise. If that doesn’t work, you may have an issue with the defrost timer. The defrost timer is located in the front of the unit, behind the kickplate. This part is actually a heating element located on the evaporator coil and can not be repaired. If you are experiencing trouble with the defrost timer, you may also notice a buildup of frost in your refrigerator or freezer. To have this component replaced, you should contact an experienced professional for installation of the refrigerator repair part.

Things To Know Before Troubleshooting Bosch Dishwasher Pump

Posted on

Among the top appliance manufacturers operating in the present-day market, Bosch is one. Thus, the products of Bosch are supposed to meet the ‘standards’ as far as the quality and effectiveness of the appliances are concerned and, ‘expectation’ as far as the wishes, whims and fancies of consumers are concerned. Bosch dishwashers offer quality and effectiveness without any doubt, but when it comes to expectations of the consumers, the latter will certainly have to be reasonable and down to earth. Bosch dishwashers are known for using very little water and energy while operating. Their parts are durable and almost resistant to easy damage. In short, the owners can expect a Bosch dishwasher of any model to last a long time, save water and energy bills and display superior performance at anytime of the day. However, like all other appliances, Bosch dishwashers are sure to malfunction before their due time if not maintained well. Bosch dishwasher pumps can also show deterioration when owners begin to harbor the belief that these parts can clean themselves automatically. This however, does not happen in most cases. The function of any dishwasher pump is to remove the food debris from the inside of the appliance, which gathers after the dishes are sprayed with water. When the pump is malfunctioning the first identification sign will be water not draining from the dishwasher or, the dishwasher making odd noises. To repair or replace this component, the owners will first have to locate the same within the appliance. In Bosch dishwashers the pump is usually located in the bottom right hand side of the appliance. Owners need to follow instructions as mentioned in the owner’s manual to reach the part, keeping the safety guidelines in mind.

The question of whether to replace the Bosch dishwasher pumps or just clean it and put it back in place depends upon the wear and tear that the part has undergone. If the appliance is just a few years old, one may not consider replacing. In such cases, cleaning will be enough. The process of cleaning is usually not very difficult. This can be owed to the fact that most top manufacturers of appliances make their products keeping the factor of ‘user friendliness’ in thorough consideration. Simply put, it eliminates the hassle of calling professionals at every little malfunctioning that happens. Using products like washer cleaners can go a long way in maintaining washing appliances in general. However, dishwasher cleaners are different from clothing washer cleaners and owners must choose the right one for their appliances. Washer cleaners and quality cleaners of the like are available with reputed providers and can help increase the lifespan of dishwashers at large. In fact, cleaning the appliance with proper cleaning agents can postpone troubleshooting for many years.

DON’T – Rush out to purchase a replacement appliance at the first hint of a problem with your current one. With rare exception, services such as dryer repair are more affordable than purchasing an entirely new unit and are often completed in a fraction of the time.

DO – Call a professional as soon as you notice any changes in your unit’s behavior or performance. Hesitation could cause further damage, and it also means a longer period of time for you to have to put up with insufficient service. Quick symptom diagnosis increases the likelihood of a fast, successful repair.

DON’T – Try to fix the problem yourself. Reading your refrigerator repair manual is no substitute for years of training and experience. After all, when you’re dealing with machines, you’re messing around with moving parts and utility lines. Whether it’s a dishwasher repair or an oven repair, short-cut solutions can damage your appliance further, create safety risks, and more.

DO – Practice proper operational practices, as well as routine cleaning and maintenance, so you do all you can to prevent future instances of the same problem.

DON’T – Settle for anything less than professional replacement appliance installation in the event that your current machine is deemed too damaged to fix. Improper installation can mean shortened appliance life, poor service, unnecessarily high energy bills, and other easily avoidable consequences.

DO – Request emergency appliance repair if you believe that you are at immediate risk of a fire or suspect a gas leak. If there is any reason to think that you are in any type of danger because of your appliance, it is far better to be safe than sorry.

Washing Machine Repair: When to DIY, and When to Call in an Appliance Repair Service

Posted on

Is your washing machine giving you trouble? A broken washing machine can be quite the headache, forcing you to lug loads of laundry to the nearest laundromat or spend valuable time hand washing items in the sink.

If your machine is on the fritz, you may be inclined to rush out and buy a new washer. Washing machine replacement can be very expensive, though, and when you factor in time for researching features and scheduling delivery and hookup, much of the convenience associated with a new unit is lost. If you’re looking to save money and time, washing machine repair is your best bet washer repair san marino.

Some washing machine repairs are simple enough for you to handle yourself, while others require the expertise of a professional appliance repair technician. How can you tell which repair issues are suitable for a DIY job, and which to leave to the pros? Let’s break it down by looking at some of the most common washer issues:

Leaks
A leaking washing machine often evokes feelings of panic, and with good reason. The combination of soap, water, and intricate electrical wiring and digital panels is a volatile one. Add in the potential for water damage to floors and the surrounding surfaces, and you’ve got a recipe for disaster. Fortunately, most washer leaks are easy and inexpensive to resolve.

The first thing you’ll want to do is unplug your washing machine to ensure your safety. Check the door seals and gaskets for any wear and tear, especially in front-loading machines. If you see water leaking from the front of the machine, it’s a clear sign that the door gasket needs to be replaced. Most gaskets can easily be swapped out by the average homeowner; just check your washing machine repair manual for the correct part number.

If your door seal is in good condition, or you notice water leaking from the back or underneath the machine, there’s a good chance the leak is originating from the water inlet hoses on the back of the washer. Simply tighten the connections between the machine and the hot and cold hookups, and you should be good to go. If neither of these fixes solves the problem, your machine may be overfilling due to a malfunctioning water level sensor. Due to the complex electronic components involved, this is a washing machine repair best left to the professionals.

Excessive Noise
Does your washing machine rattle or thump? Does it shimmy across your laundry room during each cycle? The most likely culprit is an unbalanced drum. Make sure that you’re distributing the weight of your laundry evenly throughout the tub. It’s also important to make certain your machine is level with the floor. You can level the washer yourself by simply adjusting the legs on the bottom of the machine. You want your washer to be as close to the floor as possible. Placing the machine on a rubber-backed carpet can also help to keep it in place and minimize noise.

A loose drum or motor mount can also cause loud banging sounds when your washer is running. While it is fairly simple to tighten the bolts for the drum and motor mount, it can be quite difficult to access those parts of the washer. The motor mount is usually located under the tub, and you may have to lean the machine to one side while simultaneously supporting the mount in order to access it. If you’re having a hard time getting to this part of the washer, it may be time to call in your local washer/dryer repair specialist for help. If these minor adjustments don’t resolve the issue, you may be in need of a motor replacement. Contact your local appliance repair company for more information.

Failure to Spin
If your washing machine doesn’t spin, and is leaving your clothes sopping wet, there could be a number of issues to blame. As with all washing machine repairs, it is important to unplug your washer before you begin working on it. The easiest solution is to check the belts at the back of the machine. If the belts are getting stuck on another component, it could prevent your machine from spinning properly. Over time, the belts may become worn, necessitating replacement: a simple washing machine repair that you can do on your own. If the belts are intact and moving freely, the lid switch may be at fault. The lid switch is typically located near the door hinge at the front or top of the machine. To determine whether the lid switch is functioning properly, hold the door open, and depress the switch using a pen or similar object. If the machine begins to spin normally, the lid switch and plunger aren’t making good contact, and probably need to be replaced. This should be an easy fix as long as you consult your appliance repair manual for the appropriate part numbers and installation instructions. Some other issues that can result in failure to spin include a motor mounting plate that needs to be adjusted or replaced, a worn motor coupling, and a bad clutch. Addressing these issues requires a lot of work, and an in-depth knowledge of the inner workings of your washing machine. In other words, these are repairs best left to professionals experienced in home appliance repair.

How to Check the Heating Element on a Whirlpool Electric Dryer

Posted on

If your Whirlpool electric dryer has stopped heating, it can wreak havoc on your life until it’s repaired. If you’re a bit handy, this article will help you locate the most common components that can fail and cause the dryer to stop heating.

When working on an electric dryer, the first thing to be aware of is that it plugs into a 240 volt outlet. It’s very important to make sure that the dryer in unplugged before attempting any diagnostics with the dryer.

There are several components in a dryer that can fail and cause it not to dry. Using a multi-meter, these components can easily be checked from accessing them at the rear of the dryer lg dryer repair los angeles.

First, make sure the dryer cord has been removed from the outlet. Next detach the vent from the rear of the dryer and move it to the side. You will have to remove ten 1/4 sockets screws to remove the back panel. From here you can check the heating element, thermal fuse, hi-limit thermostats and operating thermostat.

The heater is located on the right side. To check the heating element, remove the two red wires attached to the heater terminal located on bottom of the heater casing. Test the terminals with your multi-meter and you should have continuity. If not, then the heating element is faulty and will need to be replaced.

Another component that fails often is the thermal fuse which is located on the left side. The thermal fuse is white, thin and about two inches in length. Check this for continuity. If the fuse is bad, you will want to make sure that the dryer venting leading from the dryer to outside is clear. If it gets too hot inside the dryer, this non reset able fuse will fail.

Attached to the heating element casing are two hi-limit thermostats that can be tested for continuity. Unplug the wires and test with your multi-meter. One thermostat is located on the top and the other on the bottom near the heating element terminals. If these thermostats fail, they will cut power to the heating element.

Finally, from the rear of the dryer, the operating thermostat can be tested. The operating thermostat cycles the heat to turn on and off in order to maintain an average temperature near 155 degrees on the normal cycle. It’s located just below the thermal fuse. Check the continuity between the two larger terminals on the thermostat. If the it does not have continuity, it will have to be replaced.

If after testing these components the dryer is still not heating, you may have to call your local appliance repair company to investigate further. The problem may lie with a few more components or wiring.

Common Washing Machine Problems

Posted on

While technology is unquestionably built with a shelf life these days and not to last as it once was, most common faults when it comes to household appliances are down to user error and not to the mechanics or make up of the machine itself. How many times have you overloaded your washing machine, used the wrong detergent or used the right detergent but put it in the wrong place? Sometimes it’s a genuine mistake but mostly it’s done under the false premise that if you wash more things together you’ll use less electricity, less water, saving you time and money but it’ll cost you a lot more to get it fixed than it would to separate your washing out into manageable loads.

The average washing machine is designed to be used no more than around five times per week and you really shouldn’t need to use it more than this. If you follow this rule, your washing machine should last between six and eight years but be prepared for this figure to be a lot lower if you consistently pack clothes, towels and bedding into the drum maytag washer repair los angeles.

The following are common problems that can often be prevented by following manufacturer’s guidelines on load size, detergent, serving and maintenance but if necessary be fixed easily and quickly by a trained appliance repair engineer.

The machine stops mid cycle – This can be very frustrating as a load of washing will be trapped and you’ll have to call in a professional but on the plus side, the problem will probably be a simple one and getting it fixed will be considerably cheaper than recycling the old and buying new.

The machine is noisier than usual – This is more than likely caused by a bearings problem and this can be diagnosed by first determining when it is at its noisiest (i.e. when spinning or when still) and by opening the door of the washing machine and moving the drum directly up and down with your hands – if this causes a noise then your bearings have probably worn out and will need replacing. This is a cheaper and longer term solution than buying a new machine.

There is water leaking from the washing machine – This is probably due to a worn seal or drain hose or potentially a problem with the solenoid valve which is the part which controls how much water is fed into the drum during a cycle. Replacements for any of these three things are inexpensive but it’s important to get the problem properly diagnosed by a professional.
